Tim Mowl's latest revisionist study of William Kent was published in May 2006. This is his fourth controversial biography of an eighteenth-century style setter and a follow-up to his provocative William Beckford - Composing for Mozart (1998), Horace Walpole - The Great Outsider (1996), and John Wood - Architect of Obsession (1988).
Opposite: Richard Bentley's frontispiece of 1751, drawn for Horace Walpole's devastating Memoirs of the Reign of George II showing Walpole in the centre and the first phase of his Gothick villa at Twickenham, Strawberry Hill, in the background.
